Plot summary
International Projects is a large corporation, and its founder and chairman, Edward L. McKeever, is leaving to become Secretary of Defense. At the shareholders' meeting where John T. Blessington takes his place, Laura Partridge, who owns ten shares, keeps asking the board questions about how the company is run. To keep her busy, Blessington hires her as director of shareholder relations and gives her a secretary, Amelia Shotgraven, with orders to obstruct her. The job has no real duties, so Laura writes personal letters to the company's stockholders. Amelia, won over by Laura's help with her own romance, begins to assist her instead.

The Solid Gold Cadillac is in black-and-white except for its final scene, which switches to Technicolor to show the small stockholders' wedding gift: a gleaming solid gold Cadillac that Laura drives around Manhattan.- Josephine Hull, then in her seventies, played the role on Broadway that Judy Holliday took in the film.
