Plot summary
Writer Paul Decker lives with his wife Madge at their villa on the Italian coast, where their marriage has soured. One morning the servants find Madge dead in a room sealed from the inside, and the local Inspector and the British consular official Mr. Wilson treat the case as suicide, even though no note is found. Candy, Madge's teenage daughter, comes from England with Toto, her dog, and Jean Edwards, her companion, and straight away blames her stepfather for her mother's death. Candy also believes Decker caused her father's death years earlier and passed it off as an accident. When the police decline to investigate further, Candy sets out to gather proof against him herself.

- Star Peter van Eyck had to do a lot of difficult swimming in The Snorkel, and after one morning spent keeping up with a motorboat that was filming him, he told director Green, "You never asked me if I could swim before giving me the part."
- The Snorkel was the first starring vehicle for actress Mandy Miller, and director Green said she was a natural talent but a bit too mature for the part, with the film's efforts to disguise this failing.
