Plot summary
Kolia is a twenty-year-old guitar player from Perm who is taken into custody for drug possession and drafted into the Russian Army. In Chechnya, drunken Russian soldiers attack a Chechen couple in front of their teenage daughter Raïssa. Her nine-year-old brother Hadji hides and watches, then carries his infant brother to safety, and the trauma leaves him mute. Other Chechen refugees help him toward a camp. Carole, a French-born Chechnya-based NGO worker and researcher for a European Union human rights committee, befriends him. Raïssa searches for both of her brothers.
