Plot summary
Ann Dixon and Eve Monroe are students at the same high school. Eve, who has seen more of life, shows Ann how to smoke and drink, and when Ann asks whether Eve lets boys kiss her, Eve only laughs. Ann and Eve spend a weekend at a lake with Tommy and Ed, and afterward Ann keeps going out with Tommy to places where they drink and kiss. One night, Ralph Bennett approaches Ann while she is out drinking with Tommy, who is drunk. Tommy tries to fight Ralph, and both he and Ed are thrown out, after which Ann ends things with Tommy. Tommy cautions her against Ralph. Ann dates Ralph without telling her parents.
