Plot summary
Robert D. Keppel teaches criminology at the University of Washington. Detective Dave Reichert comes to him for help profiling a serial killer who preys on prostitutes in the Seattle area. Sande, Keppel's wife, objects, worn down by how much of his time goes to crime scene investigations rather than to her. Keppel then receives a letter from Ted Bundy, the serial killer he helped send to death row, who offers to consult on the case. Keppel arranges a series of interviews, saying he wants Bundy's expertise while hoping Bundy will describe his own murders before his execution. Bundy gives him little for the profile and calls the unknown killer The Riverman.
