Plot summary
Sissi is a nurse at the Birkenhof psychiatric asylum, where she cares for the patients. A letter from her friend Meike, who lives by the ocean, asks her to take documents to a bank and collect a bequest from Meike's late mother. Before Sissi can go, a man running through the street draws a truck driver's eyes off the road, and the truck hits her as she crosses with a blind patient. The man crawls under the truck, cuts into her throat and uses a straw so that she can breathe again. She wakes in the hospital with a button torn from his jacket in her hand. She asks the blind patient to help her find the man who saved her.
