Plot summary

A famous pianist's son, Shuhei Amamiya, leaves Tokyo for the countryside after his grandmother's health declines, bringing the strict piano training he has had since childhood and the hope of following his father. At Moriwaki Elementary the other children tease him and dare him to play a piano in the forest that is said to be cursed and to give no sound. Kai Ichinose, a classmate who is the son of a prostitute, leads Shuhei there after school. Kai plays a wonderful song on the piano, and Shuhei cannot get a note out of it. The two boys, from very different homes, begin a friendship.
