Plot summary
Richard Dees reports for the tabloid Inside View, and his motto is never to believe what he publishes. His editor, Merton Morrison, hands him a story about murders at rural airfields, where victims are found drained of blood. A pilot registered as Dwight Renfield is said to believe he is a vampire. Dees turns the assignment down at first, and Morrison gives it to Katherine Blair, a novice. Two more killings at another airfield change his mind, and he sets out in a light aircraft of his own to retrace the killer's route, questioning witnesses and bribing officials for details. Messages reach him warning him off the story.
