Plot summary

Anatole's Greenwich Village coffee house is the beatniks' hangout, with a garret upstairs and a basement where he lets them sleep; Angel, an underage actress, is one of them. Their scene draws the tourist trade: they smoke and sell dope, mooch around art galleries and talk at length. A wounded robber from a bank holdup, the only one of his crew to come out alive, hides in a tour bus and is taken in; the beatniks fill him with morphine and give him a mattress to sleep on, and they look for a way to take his $90,000 for themselves.
