Plot summary
In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted of murdering their parents, who were killed on August 20, 1989, and the brothers are still in prison. In audio interviews recorded behind bars, they describe what took place and why. Relatives, lawyers, jurors who sat on the trials, journalists who reported on the case and the lead prosecutor also speak. Those taking part include an aunt and a cousin of the brothers, a psychiatric nurse specialist who was a defense expert at the first trial, the psychiatrist who treated Erik, a veteran public defender, the brothers' appellate attorney and a former ABC News producer and executive.
