Plot summary
A quiet neighborhood is gripped by fear while the police try to make sense of a run of bizarre murders they cannot explain. Caleb, a crippled gardener in thick-lensed glasses, works through his daily round of chores at the homes of local residents, then goes back to the dingy, filthy hovel where he lives. There he greets Lester, and neither of the two is quite what he appears to be. Caleb has been pushed around more than he can bear, and there is another self inside him, one that answers to that same name, with business of its own among the neighbors.
