The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52 (2021) on Netflix

Plot summary

A crew of oceanographers and marine scientists takes to the water to track the 52-hertz whale, an animal known to researchers only through its call. The search reaches back to the submarine warfare science of the Cold War, the research that first picked up the call. Alongside the hunt come the histories that surround it: the harm done to whale populations by commercial whaling, the Songs of the Humpback Whale record and the response it drew, and the rising ship noise that interferes with the way whales communicate. It also considers how people surrounded by modern technology can end up isolated from one another.
