Plot summary

Bumblebees pollinate crops and wildflowers, and their work supports the biodiversity of ecosystems, but a changing climate and other pressures have put their survival in jeopardy. Franklin's Bumblebee was once common, and today it is critically endangered, with the most recent sighting dated to 2006. Every July, a group of more than fifty scientists and explorers spends a week in the field looking for it, and the documentary follows that search. Interviews with scientists and environmentalists explain why these insects matter as pollinators and set out four pressures on their numbers: the food available to them, shrinking habitat, pesticides and disease.
