Plot summary
Augustin Masset is the doctor in charge of a palliative care unit, and Fabrice Toussaint is a philosopher and author who has just learned from an MRI that he has cancer. The two begin a philosophical dialogue about life and death, the doctor as guide and the writer as his passenger. Both men reflect on their own lives as the conversation goes on. Masset brings Toussaint along to visit some of the patients of the unit, and Toussaint studies how those patients spend their last days, material for a book he means to write. What he sees in those visits and hears in the talks brings him up against his own fears and anxieties.
