Kathleen Burke
Biography
Kathleen Burke was an American actress and model who worked in 1930s films. Born in Hammond, Indiana, she moved to Chicago at 15 and acted in amateur productions. After modeling and radio work in Chicago, she won a Paramount talent contest to play the Panther Woman, Lota, in Island of Lost Souls (1932). That break led to more than twenty screen appearances over six years. She had the female lead in The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) with Gary Cooper and appeared in The Last Outpost alongside Cary Grant that same year. She made her last film in 1938 and retired from screen acting at 25. In the early 1940s she turned to the stage, hoping to move past the Panther Woman image with different roles. In 1942 she did summer theater in Great Neck, New York, taking parts in Night Must Fall and Yes, My Darling Daughter. She died in 1980.
