The Farrer Method (2024) on Netflix

Plot summary

Bruce Farrer taught in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, where he began his career in 1961 and ran a meteorological station of his own. He handed his students a task that seemed to have no use: write a ten-page letter to the version of themselves that would exist twenty years later, imagining the life ahead. He filed every letter away and posted it back two decades on. Adults who once sat in his classroom recall the teenagers they were and describe what it was like to open their own words from long ago and to read what they had hoped for. Those former students credit him with helping them find their place in the world.
