Plot summary

The Fandom examines the furry fandom, the internet subculture built around anthropomorphic art, and charts its growth across five decades. It begins with fans of animation who carried anime to the West in the 1970s and with Disney animators whose careers came under threat, then moves to science fiction fans who organized the first furry conventions and to the community's early adoption of the internet in the 1980s. Interviews with founding figures, among them the organizers of the first furry convention, appear alongside archival tapes and footage from past and current gatherings. The documentary turns last to the modern fandom, its role as a refuge for LGBT fans, and the artistic and economic mark it has made on major American cities.
