Plot summary
A Wall Street psychologist, a gated community resident, a Scottish rapper and former alcoholic, an English careworker, a Walmart associate, a KFC attendant and a man serving a three-strikes sentence are among the seven people whose lives the documentary follows in the United States and Britain. Commentators set out evidence that richer Western countries have grown less happy, as communities grow fearful, health problems spread and violent deaths occur more often. They argue that economic division produces social division, that consumerism and materialism shape what people expect of their lives, and that inequality also comes from how people judge one another's image, status and neighborhood.
