The Devil Thumbs a Ride (1947) on Netflix

Plot summary

Jimmy Ferguson, a lingerie salesman, is driving home to Los Angeles after a convention party, marking his birthday and his second wedding anniversary, when he gives a lift to Steve Morgan, who has just robbed a San Diego theater and shot its manager. Jimmy, who has been drinking, telephones his wife Diane to say he will be home soon. At a gas station the two pick up Carol and Agnes, bound for San Pedro. The attendant, Jack Kenny, hears a radio report of the crime and calls the police, who circulate a description of Jimmy's car. Steve watches for the law, and at a roadblock he talks Jimmy into handing over the wheel.
