Plot summary
At nineteen, Giulio has chosen not to travel. He stays in his parents' house for the vacation and helps them with their work in the vegetable garden. The place next door has stood empty for a while, and now Lia, twenty, moves in for the summer. She keeps to herself and says almost nothing about who she is, though she mentions she came alone to the old family home she had not visited since childhood. Giulio is polite and sensitive, and he finds himself thinking about her all day and all night. Lia leads him into games that are strange and grow more dangerous, and she lets nobody into the abandoned house.
