Plot summary
The Melbourne Cup is known as the race that stops a nation. The 150-year-old classic is Australia's richest handicap over two miles and its most prestigious, and the world's finest horsemen from Europe, the Middle East and Asia plot their paths toward the race. Among the riders bound for the 2002 running is the young Australian jockey Damien Oliver. Days before the great race, his only brother Jason is killed in a racing accident. Their father died in one 27 years earlier. In the aftermath Damien rides through one discouraging defeat after another, and he then joins the Irish trainer Dermot Weld.
