Plot summary
The guest house that Nick Eliot rents in Washington belongs to Cliff and Liv Forrester. Nick is a twenty-eight-year-old writer new to a job at Pique magazine, and the Forresters' 14-year-old daughter Darian, whose only friend is Cheyenne, visits him often and is infatuated with him. At a party her parents throw in the main house, Nick hears her play piano, follows her onto a balcony and says that if she were older he would be interested in her. She persuades him to drive her to a secluded spot, where she kisses him; he stops and takes her home. Nick begins seeing Amy Maddik, a photographer at the magazine, and Darian becomes jealous.

- Alan Shapiro claims to have based the film on events from his own life. The woman on whom he based Adrian sued him for using her real name for Alicia Silverstone's character, so when the film was re-edited for television the character's name was changed to Adrian; the VHS and laserdisc releases retained the original spoken dialogue.
