Plot summary

Alicia lives in a comfortable apartment in one of Buenos Aires's most affluent neighborhoods with her husband Ignacio, a retired engineer, their live-in maid Gladys, and Gladys's young son Santi, who calls her Auntie. Two cases pull at the household. Alicia's grown son Daniel is accused of raping and attempting to murder his ex-wife Marcela, and Alicia will not consider that he could be guilty. Gladys, who left an abusive father in a remote forested area for work in the city, is charged over the death of her newborn in the family's home and says nothing in her own defense. Certain of Daniel's innocence, Alicia sets out to keep him from prison.
