Plot summary
Candy is sixteen and on her way home from Catholic school when three amateur criminals take her. Eddy, his partner Jessie and Jessie's brother Alan drive her off in a van and leave her buried in a field in Southern California with a pipe for air, counting on a ransom. Nearby, Sean, a nonverbal autistic boy, sees the crime and tries to tell his parents, Dudley and Audrey. The kidnappers reach Candy's father, Avery Phillips, and demand the diamonds from his jewelry store. Avery stays where he is and tells no one about the abduction, not even Candy's mother, Katherine.
