Plot summary
The filmmaker spends 1996 traveling the United States on a book tour, visiting 47 towns. He records the economic troubles he sees and talks with workers who fear losing their jobs. He asks why large American corporations make their products overseas where labor is cheaper, when many Americans are unemployed and would gladly take those jobs. He sets out to question the heads and chief executives of those corporations, but security guards keep him away. He also faults the president and other candidates in that year's election for not addressing economic issues.
