Plot summary
Oskar Gröning is a former Schutzstaffel member known as the Accountant of Auschwitz. He faced charges in connection with the killing of 300,000 Jews. The lawyer Thomas Walther brought the prosecution against him in the 2010s. Gröning took the stand in 2015, when he was 94, and the trial drew headlines worldwide. The case raised a debate about whether prosecuting an elderly man for crimes committed six decades earlier serves any useful purpose.
