Plot summary
Eddie Braun works as a stunt performer and grew up admiring Evel Knievel, whose Skycycle X-2 attempt to clear the Snake River Canyon in Idaho failed. At 55, Braun wants to finish what his childhood hero could not, and the chance to make the jump himself arrives. Industry backing does not come, so he spends his life savings on the project. Scott Truax, whose father, a NASA rocket scientist, built Knievel's original steam-powered machine, joins him to construct a craft that can carry him across. A film crew documents the pair at work, and the attempt is Braun's way of honoring Knievel's legacy.
