Plot summary
Jessica and Carl live in a small coal mining town in Appalachian Ohio. They are half siblings who feel trapped by economic and social pressures. Their shared rebellion becomes an illicit love affair. When Jessica becomes pregnant, Carl returns from Columbus and learns the news. The pregnancy sharpens the conflict between their youthful vitality and the town's harsh realities. Carl must choose between taking her away and abandoning her.
