Plot summary
Billy, thirteen, leaves home when his parents forget his birthday and goes through thick woods to an old mansion, where a room is set up for a birthday celebration. He takes it for a surprise from his parents and opens a present, which holds a laughing severed head. Elsewhere, several teenagers and older adults come to the same mansion for a party, supposing nobody lives there. Kreon, a warlock, does live there, watching over his bride Isabelle, preserved for over seventy years, a state he maintains with human victims. He takes possession of one of the young visitors, who uses a Ouija board to summon monsters into the house: giant spiders, muck men and small reptilian demons.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Spookies (1986)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Spookies was first shot as Twisted Souls, but creative and legal disputes between its producers and financial backer Michael Lee, founder of the UK home video label Vipco, stopped final post-production work such as editing, scoring and effects.
- In 1985 Michael Lee paid director Eugenie Joseph to shoot extra footage, which was spliced together with the finished Twisted Souls material to create Spookies, giving the film two separate casts of characters.
- Financial backer Michael Lee hired Brian O'Hara to make flatulence sound effects for the muck men, and writers Frank Farel, Brendan Faulkner, Thomas Doran and the rest of the production crew disliked the result.
- One scene, with Joe Niola as a tramp named Jakey sitting on a tombstone talking to an imaginary friend, was cut from the film and replaced with the Billy scene.
