Plot summary
Bill Whitney feels out of place in the Beverly Hills mansion he shares with his parents and his sister Jenny, who keep the company of other wealthy families while he does not fit in. He complains about his rich relatives to Dr. Cleveland, his therapist. Then his sister's ex-boyfriend David Blanchard hands him an audio tape that was recorded without the family's knowledge, and what Bill hears on it sounds like his relatives at a murderous orgy. He passes the tape to Dr. Cleveland, and later, when he plays it himself, the recording has become Jenny's debutante party. Bill looks for David to get another copy.

Woody Keith and Rick Fry's original screenplay was a traditional slasher whose climax involved a religious cult of the elite sacrificing the lower classes; Brian Yuzna rewrote the cult as an alternate species of humans that literally feeds on the lower classes.- Producer Brian Yuzna held the rights to a Re-Animator sequel and used them as leverage for a two-picture deal, the first of which became Society, after moving into directing when several of his productions failed for lack of a director.
