Plot summary

News reports describe a sound heard along the whole East Coast that nobody can explain. No one knows where it came from. In a quiet suburban town, that night brings a change: people begin walking in their sleep, and killing while they do it. Friends and family turn on one another, and the neighbors who are still awake have to band together to get through the night. Edgar's house becomes the gathering point. His ex-wife arrives, along with his parents and the people from the surrounding houses. For Edgar, the crowd in his house is its own ordeal, worse than the sleepwalkers outside.
