Plot summary
Since cinema began, moving images have mostly been recorded on photochemical film. Digital capture arrived later as a second method, and the documentary sets the two beside each other. It examines how each one works and what artists and filmmakers have accomplished with them. The two media differ in how they are handled from the shoot to the finished print. A host carries the conversations with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists and engineers, who speak about their own experience with each medium and about the innovations that have changed how movies are made. The survey also takes in where the technology stands now and what the future may bring.
