Plot summary
Professor Ernst Prell studies reports of a Yeti, and he takes four graduate students, Keith, Karen, Tom and Lynn, to Boot Island in upstate New York to look for one. The night before they leave, Prell serves Keith a dish called "gin sung", and the other students hear former student Spencer St. Clair describe Prell's earlier expedition, from which only he and the professor came back. On the island the group stays with Prell's friend Dr. Karl Werner and his manservant, Laughing Crow; Werner says he has seen the creature and believes the melting winter ice left it stranded. The students begin searching the woods, and Tom takes a rifle out hunting.

- On the first day of shooting, while filming the opening title footage with co-writer Ed Adlum in a gorilla suit, director Michael Findlay grew troubled, went to hospital and was shot up with Valium.
- Desperate to complete the film, co-writer Ed Adlum turned to Roberta Findlay, by then estranged from her husband Michael; she agreed to shoot it as cinematographer because the project was already written, funded and its actors cast.
- Michael Findlay was killed in a helicopter accident in 1977, after which his widow Roberta directed hardcore porn and kept adding to her horror filmography; in recent years some of the couple's films have gained a cult following.
