- In a November 1972 episode of McMillan & Wife called "Cop of the Year," Rock Hudson's McMillan visits the set of a Western in production titled Showdown, directed by George Seaton playing himself, to ask the special-effects supervisor how to make a gunshot wound appear on a gunman's chest.
- Showdown was the final film for director George Seaton, who three years earlier had directed star Dean Martin in the blockbuster Airport. It was also the last Western of Dean Martin's career.
