Plot summary
Gangaram is the sarpanch of a village inside the Pilibhit tiger reserve in Uttar Pradesh, where three failed monsoons have left the farmers in poverty and wild animals ruin what little grows in their fields. He goes to a government office to ask for aid, and there he reads a poster: families of people killed by tigers are entitled to a compensation of ten lakh rupees. Gangaram decides to give his own life to a tiger so that his family can eat. In the forest he crosses paths with Jim Ahmed, a poacher, and the two set out together to find a tiger.
