Plot summary
Relangi Mavayya lives in his hometown with his wife, his mother, his daughter Chinni, his two sons Peddodu and Chinnodu, and Seetha, an orphaned niece the family fostered. Peddodu, the reserved elder, has quit his uncle Brahmananda Rao's company after being scolded, while Chinnodu is quick-witted and flirtatious. Relatives assume Seetha, Peddodu's cross cousin, will marry him, and she holds feelings for him even though he never calls her by name. At a wedding, Chinnodu meets Geetha, whose father Ramachandra Prasad looks down on the family's modest means. Kondal Rao and his son Gooduraju begrudge the family's standing. Ramachandra Prasad humiliates Peddodu at the wedding ceremony, and the brothers set off for Hyderabad to find employment.

- Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu was first planned with Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan as its male leads, with producer Dil Raju beginning work in June 2010. When the project stalled, Srikanth Addala took the script to Mahesh Babu in June 2011.
- Trisha, Bhumika Chawla and Anushka Shetty were considered for the second female lead before Amala Paul was signed in mid-December 2011. After a photo shoot and the start of filming, Paul left the project in late January 2012 and Dil Raju replaced her with Anjali.
- After crowds disrupted filming three times in Hyderabad, Mahesh Babu suggested producer Dil Raju move production to Chennai, where several wedding scenes were shot on a coconut plantation; rain increased production costs.
- Samantha Ruth Prabhu began dubbing her own role for the first time in a Telugu film on 23 October; the singer Chinmayi had dubbed her previous roles.
- Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu became the first South Indian film released in Manhattan, premiering on 10 January 2013 at the Times Square AMC Empire 25 theatre.
- Ganesh Patro wrote the film's dialogue in the dialect spoken in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh, edited by director Srikanth Addala; it was Patro's last project before his death in January 2015.
- Part of the song "Yem Cheddaam" was shot at the Sabarmati Riverfront in mid-April, marking the riverfront's first appearance in a Telugu film.
- A house set worth ₹10 million was built at Ramoji Film City under the supervision of A. S. Prakash, at a point when producer Dil Raju told the media that 35 percent of the filming was complete.
