- Season of Love grew out of a "Pitch to Production" contest that Tello Films announced in November 2018 in response to the lack of LGBTQ+ representation in holiday films, particularly for queer women; winners were picked in early 2019 and the film entered pre-production.
- After the release, director Christin Baker received messages from viewers who were pleased that Season of Love was an LGBT movie that did not focus on hardship and that they could watch with their families.
