Plot summary
Amanda Foley is married to Mark Foley, a college professor, and she wakes from nightmares filled with violence and screaming. She cannot remember them, and her psychiatrist, Dr. Greenfield, tells her that violence in dreams points to violence she has witnessed or suffered and then repressed. Mark knows little about her life before their marriage, and he encourages her to try hypnosis. Greenfield tells Detective Bender about a university student who vanished without a trace, and the detective asks questions around the campus. At the university, Cynthia Meadows, a student with poor marks from him, flirts with Mark and walks him to his car. Amanda notices that Mark is distracted and acting strangely.
