Plot summary
Genaro helps run his family's small grocery store in Los Praditos and lives with his mother. Convinced that the Dominican Republic offers him little, he spends his free time on English lessons and dreams of a visa and a life in the United States. After visiting Miguelito, an acquaintance whose fortunes changed through foreign girlfriends, Genaro decides to become a sanky-panky. Giuseppe, an Italian manager at a resort in Bávaro, gets him temporary work there, warning that staff must not become involved with guests. Among the arrivals Genaro notices Martha, an American vacationing with Dorothy and Helen. She speaks almost no Spanish and he barely any English. Genaro asks Chelo and Carlitos to keep the two older women company.
