Plot summary
The interviewees, 31 in all, are queer and Chinese and are staying in the UK, with origins that include mainland China, Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, the Netherlands and the UK. They take up identity, intersectionality, mental health, migration and discrimination, and what home and community mean to them. The 1980s HIV pandemic is placed beside the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020, and a history of ostracization and discrimination against queer people is set out. The racism and homophobia that queer Chinese people face at the same time are also addressed, alongside a call for kindness and empathy toward people from all walks of life.
