Plot summary
Sabrina's father writes to her with a task: open an antique gold locket that holds her Aunt Sophia, who was banished long ago for revealing her powers to someone who was not a witch. She has two weeks before the magic fades, and her only clue is that the answer lies in Rome. Sabrina expects a quiet trip, but Salem, the family's talking cat, has hidden in her backpack. At the inn she finds Gwen, a British witch whose spells rarely turn out as she intends, and Gwen's talking guinea pig, Stonehenge. Gwen joins the hunt for the locket. Photographer Paul catches Sabrina before she tumbles into the Trevi Fountain, and when he and his friend Travis see her work magic, they decide the story is worth selling.

- The film's tie-in book, credited to author Mel Odom and screenwriter Daniel Berendsen, adds a subplot not in the film: Sabrina's aunts in Westbridge spying on Harvey and a mysterious girl named Tish.
