Yayan Ruhian

Biography

Yayan Ruhian is an Indonesian martial artist and actor who began studying pencak silat as a teenager in his native Tasikmalaya, West Java, and went on to teach the art abroad before moving into film. He served as a hand-to-hand combat instructor for Indonesia's national police, and in 2008 Gareth Evans brought him in to help choreograph Merantau, in which he also played the antagonistic Eric. The film came out in 2009. He is known for his work in Evans's films, playing Mad Dog in The Raid: Redemption (2011) and Prakoso in The Raid 2 (2014), and handling fight choreography on both with Iko Uwais. His other roles include Kyoken in Yakuza Apocalypse (2015), Tasu Leech in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), a police chief in Beyond Skyline (2017), the same part in Skylines (2020), and a role in Ben & Jody (2022). He is often cast as antagonists who say little but fight with great endurance.
