Warren Ellis
Biography
Warren Ellis is an Australian musician and composer who plays violin, piano, accordion, guitar and several other instruments. He took up music after finding an abandoned piano accordion at the local tip and bringing it to school in Ballarat, Victoria, and later studied classical violin in Melbourne. He wrote music for theater groups before forming the Dirty Three with Mick Turner and Jim White in 1992. In 1993 he was invited to play on several songs for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and he soon joined as a full-time member, eventually co-writing much of the band's material and composing scores with Cave. He was also part of Grinderman until it disbanded in 2013. The score for The Proposition (2005) won awards including an AFI Award, and his music for Mustang earned a César Award in 2016. He released a solo album, Three Pieces for Violin, in 2002.
