Valerie Leon
Biography
Valerie Leon is an English actress and model whose screen work ranged across comedy, horror, and spy films. Born in London in 1943, she began her working life as a trainee fashion buyer for Harrods until an audition gained her a chorus part on tour in The Belle of New York, after which she started taking work as a film extra. She went on to appear in six Carry On comedies and two James Bond films, Never Say Never Again (1983) and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Her other credits include Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), The Italian Job (1969), and a dual starring role in the Hammer horror Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971). On television she appeared in The Saint, The Avengers, and Space: 1999. She was the woman in the Hai Karate commercials from 1969 to 1976, and from 2010 has toured the UK with a solo stage show.

First role
Leon's first film work came after she contacted Central Casting and was hired as a girl in a bikini for That Riviera Touch (1966), starring Morecambe and Wise.
Big break
Leon won the dual starring role of a reincarnated Egyptian queen in the Hammer horror Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971) because Hammer head James Carreras insisted on casting her.
Beyond film
Between 1969 and 1976, Leon appeared in a highly successful run of British commercials for Hai Karate aftershave, playing a woman driven wild by a man wearing the product. She spoofed that role in The Goodies 1976 episode "It Might as Well Be String."

Starting in 2010, Leon toured the UK with her own one-woman stage show, Up Front with Valerie Leon, an ongoing series of performances.
