Biography

Val Bettin was an American actor who was known for performing in an English accent, whatever the part. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, he went to England in 1948 to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, finishing in 1950, and later returned home to teach drama in Iowa. In the late 1950s he hosted The Storyteller, a children's program on Chicago television. His first film role came in 1980 in Somewhere in Time, and he moved into voice acting with Dr. David Q. Dawson in the Disney animation The Great Mouse Detective (1986). He took over the Sultan from Douglas Seale in the Aladdin television series and voiced the character in the sequels The Return of Jafar (1994) and Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996). His other credits included Shrek, Gargoyles and Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series.
