Tupac Shakur
Biography
Tupac Shakur was an American rapper and actor whose records made him one of the most influential musical figures of the 20th century. Born in East Harlem and raised partly in Baltimore and later near San Francisco, he trained in acting, poetry, jazz and ballet as a teenager before recording under the name MC New York and working for Digital Underground as a roadie and backup dancer. He first appeared as 2Pac on that group's 1991 single Same Song, then released his debut album 2Pacalypse Now the same year. Further albums included Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z... and Me Against the World, and All Eyez on Me (1996) became rap's first double album. He played the antagonist in Juice (1992), starred with Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice (1993) and appeared in Above the Rim (1994). Bullet (1996), Gridlock'd and Gang Related arrived after his death in 1996. He joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

First role
Shakur's first credited film appearance came in 1991, when he appeared with Digital Underground in Nothing but Trouble, the film that featured their single "Same Song."
Big break
Shakur landed his feature film debut in Juice after tagging along to a friend's audition and asking producer Neal H. Moritz for a chance to read, getting 15 minutes to rehearse before winning the role.
Early training
In the tenth grade, Shakur moved to the Baltimore School for the Arts. There he studied acting, poetry, jazz and ballet, appeared in Shakespeare plays and danced as the Mouse King in The Nutcracker.
A first
All Eyez on Me, Shakur's fourth album, came out on February 13, 1996. It counted as rap's first double album and satisfied two of the three records owed under his Death Row contract.
