Tony Doyle
Biography
Tony Doyle was an Irish actor who worked steadily in television and film. Born in Ballyfarnon in 1935, he first attracted attention as Father Sheehy in the RTE rural drama The Riordans, which started in 1965. His small-screen credits included Travelling Man, Coronation Street, Between the Lines, Children of the North, Ballykissangel, and Four Fathers; for his leading role in the 1998 miniseries Amongst Women he received an Irish Film and Television Academy Award. He also appeared in the first episode of Minder. Doyle's most prominent film part was Colonel Hadley, the head of the SAS, in Who Dares Wins (1982). He had roles in Ulysses (1967), Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx (1970), Loophole (1981), Circle of Friends (1995), and I Went Down (1997), where he played Tom French. He died in 2000.
