Timothy Van Patten

Timothy Van Patten is an American director, screenwriter, and producer who started out as an actor. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, he first became known as Mario Pettrino on the CBS drama The White Shadow from 1978 to 1981. He then appeared in Class of 1984 (1982), Zone Troopers (1985), and The Wrong Guys (1988), and played Max Keller on The Master and Andy Wojeski on True Blue. In the early 1990s he left acting and turned to directing full time, working on Homicide: Life on the Street, Touched by an Angel, and later HBO series including The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City, Deadwood, Rome, and Game of Thrones. He won Primetime Emmy Awards for the HBO limited series The Pacific and for directing the Boardwalk Empire episode To the Lost, and he directed the Black Mirror episode Hang the DJ and episodes of Perry Mason.
