Thom Hoffman
Biography
Thom Hoffman is an actor and documentary director, born in 1957. He began his career playing troubled or tormented characters, including a death-seeking addict in De Witte Waan (1984), a man desperately in love in Zoeken Naar Eileen (1987), and his awarded role as Frits van Egters in De Avonden (1989). His debut was Luger (1982), directed by Theo van Gogh. He went on to main roles in more than sixty films and television series, working with directors such as Paul Verhoeven, Sally Potter, Lars Von Trier, Harry Kumel, and Ian Kerkhof. After The 4th Man (1983), Verhoeven's Black Book (2006) returned him to international attention. Hoffman also directed documentaries about filmmakers he admired, worked as a photographer, and in 1998 worked with Don van Dijke on the theater play Publieksbeschimping; De Gasten Komen.
