Terence de Marney

Terence De Marney was a British actor, theater director and writer whose stage career started in 1923. Born in London, he toured in The Last of Mrs. Cheyney alongside Mrs Patrick Campbell, and in 1934 he played Tybalt at the Open Air Theatre in Romeo and Juliet. He often worked in thrillers, among them Dear Murderer and Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians. On radio he played the Count of Monte Cristo, and became the first to play Leslie Charteris's Simon Templar when The Saint premiered on Radio Athlone in 1940. His first film came in 1931, and he went on to appear in The Mystery of the Mary Celeste (1935) opposite Bela Lugosi and Die, Monster, Die! (1965) with Boris Karloff. After B films such as No Way Back (1949), he moved to Hollywood, where he acted in The Silver Chalice (1954) and was a regular on Johnny Ringo. He returned to Britain for television and directed and wrote plays.
